Growth changes the picture
Pattern can soften or sharpen, barring can change, and the balance of background colour may alter through successive sheds. Some colour lines deepen with maturity, while others become lighter or less patterned.
Photos of parents and older relatives can be informative, but they cannot promise an identical result in one young dragon.
Research
Colour is also dynamic
Peer-reviewed studies show that Central Bearded Dragons can change colour in response to background, illumination, daily cycles and thermal demands. A darker or lighter photograph is therefore not always evidence of permanent colour change.
Meaningful comparisons use similar lighting, temperature, camera settings and time since shedding.
