A broad distribution
Published species records place Pogona vitticeps across parts of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Across that range, rainfall, vegetation, soil, daily temperature and seasonal conditions vary considerably.
Descriptions such as arid or semi-arid are useful, but they do not mean that every population experiences the same conditions every day of the year.

Habitat is a mosaic
Central Bearded Dragons use open ground, woodland edges, shrubs, fallen timber, fence posts and other elevated positions. Shade, shelter, sun exposure and escape routes may sit close together within the same area.
A weather station average cannot describe the exact microclimate available to an animal. A dragon can experience very different temperatures within minutes by moving between sun, shade, height and shelter.
